The New Samsung Gear VR with Controller Is Now Available

April 24, 2017

The new Samsung Gear VR with Controller, powered by Oculus, is now officially available for purchase, and has over 20 titles for its launch. The new Gear VR headset was unveiled in February at the MWC and now end users have the chance to put their hands on the updated version with the much needed new addition - the controller. With it, you can use your hand to point, drag and drop, tilt, shoot, and more, making it easier than before to interact with VR games and experiences. The controller leaves the annoying tapping on the side of the headset in the past and is designed for one-handed use. It also has dedicated "Home", "Volume", and "Back" buttons.

Samsung Gear VR has always looked like the most easily approachable VR headset (alongside Google Cardboard), and if you already own it, you won't need to purchase the whole package for $129, as you can purchase just the controller for $39. The controller is compatible with the previous Gear VR versions as it connects via Bluetooth to the VR-enabled Samsung phones like the Galaxy S6, S7, and now - S8.

The 20+ titles at launch are just the tip of the iceberg, though, as Oculus promises 50+ additional titles are coming in the following months. The available titles at the moment are:

A Night Sky

AFFECTED: The Manor

Asteroids!

Dragon Front

Ocean Rift
